A lovely, light house with generous and well proportioned rooms, our client initially felt it needed very little updating. The kitchen was small for a family, however, and the ground floor and garden not terribly user-friendly. Buro Architects divided the existing, long kitchen/diner into two spaces, and reconfiguring the long narrow garden by colour-matching stone at one end to the dining area and positioning mirrors behind the planting. We created a study with an upper outside terrace for relaxing.
As we progressed design, it became clear there were substantial gains to be made in almost every room, and the project evolved into an almost total renovation. We designed a new electricity and plumbing scheme, prepared drawings for new bathrooms, a new study and redesigned the front garden to give more privacy with additional space for children to play. The outcome is beautiful and timeless, made special with an abundance of high quality finishes.
